On 28, May 2010, IIM Bangalore inaugurated the PGSEM batch of 2010, the 13th batch of this prestigious executive general management education programme offered exclusively to the professionals in the IT sector in India. Mr. Harsh Manglik, Chairman of NASSCOM Executive Committee, was the chief guest for the event. Harsh Manglik, Chairman NASSCOM addressed the PGSEM incoming batch during his keynote speech. He expressed pleasure at being able to speak at IIM Bangalore which he talked of as a privilege. He congratulated the newcomers on their attainments and capabilities and wished them success on their future journey. He mentioned in no uncertain terms the fact that the participants coming in from the IT industry at this point in time from India were in a way born at the right time, as this industry was a very good bet. A friend asked me about the PROJECT POSTCARDS and what it is. In a nutshell I'd say it's a project involving photographs – context-specific /irrational imagery, misleading stuff sometimes yet interesting, humour, witty captions that's about it – overall a form of storyboarding... Sometimes someone or something captivates you, in its entirety - specifically its mystery, absurdity or maybe beauty, wholesomeness, in a holistic manner. We then attempt to deconstruct and understand but also capture the same through words or strokes from our memory at a later date - although never successful completely or in the same intensity - some satisfaction is obtained, and more than anything it gives a glimpse into the moment! Mere representative it maybe - so what? A moment of thought, feeling, emotion or amazement, bewilderment and most of all a moment that has had the gumption to overwhelm you! You want to highlight the same - here is an attempt:

When we desperately dredge for the elusive happiness, bliss and mirth; the reverse can captivate us into murky depths of despair... You know the futility, the unreal nature of it all - yet you want to cling on, cling on desperately to some distant dream for we know it is unrealistic. So what? We say until it envelops you in its fangs ... that IS when you gain enlightenment. Pain and troubles/failures are our true guiding lights attuning us towards self-actualization and to what is so true to our very nature and nearest to our heart.   The best of times make you edgy and nervous as if you can fall off the cliff - success in conventional terms that is not in sync with your inn...

Realized I have been hugely influenced by Maugham's 'The Razor's Edge' at a young age and the other day Prof Anand Kasturi's mention again brought back the memories flooding in...

Ditch the glorious and the inglorious past... Together the past is an erased shadow. The crackling energy of the future beckons! The greatest joy is in focusing  On the song of the here and now, My Present. Your Present.
